A FEW THOUGHTS ON TODAYS READING...

As we read through Scripture, we should keep our eyes on its history and its chronology. From the Israelites entering Egypt with the assistance of Joseph back in Genesis to the time that they were about to enter the promised land was a little over 400 years. From the time that our nation was founded by the Pilgrims to this present day is the same amount of time. Moses continually reminded the people of the centrality of God in their people's history. We should do the same. Most have completely stripped God out of our nation's history, yet that was the reason why our nation was founded. Most now consider God irrelevant in our daily lives, yet he was continually at the center of their lives, including God being at the center of the Thanksgiving celebration, not the turkey or the Indians. Our founding fathers all kept their eyes on God as they prepared the initial documents forming our nation's roots, now we falsely believe that God has no place in the running of our government. Sadly, what made America so special and what rendered our nation so blessed by God no longer exists. We are no less pagan, prideful, self-centered, selfish, greedy, etc. than every other nation. So when we see the recent escalation of the abortion issue, the more dramatic advancement of the LGBTQ issue, the rise in socialism, etc, why are we surprised? When one lives in a godless society all of these items on the agenda are fair game. With the prevalent attitude of their being no moral absolutes, but rather moral relativism, it is just as the end of the book of Judges states in 21:25, "In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes."

Moses writes in Deuteronomy 26:1-3, "And it shall be, when you come into the land which the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance, and you possess it and dwell in it, that you shall take some of the first of all the produce of the ground, which you shall bring from your land that the Lord your God is giving you, and put it in a basket and go to the place where the Lord your God chooses to make His name abide. And you shall go to the one who is priest in those days, and say to him, 'I declare today to the Lord your God that I have come to the country which the Lord swore to our fathers to give us." Throughout the book of Deuteronomy Moses restated the nation's history and their law so that those entering the promised land would not forget. As the Torah comes to an end and we soon start the history books of the Old Testament, we will see just how quickly the people did indeed forget their roots to their own downfall.

A nation and for that matter a person can only be led astray if they choose to remain ignorant. The history of our nation is being rewritten by those in charge of education to change the way our people think. Rather than the Pilgrims being respected for their courage and centrality of their worship of God, they have been relegated to ignorant men who falsely hunted down witches. The wall can only be pulled over our eyes if we refuse to exert the diligence needed to understand our roots. Nowhere is this more true than in the arena of biblical illiteracy. If people would make God's amazing Word the cornerstone of their day, then no person, no religious leader, no denomination, no government could confuse or dismantle the truth within one's head. With the truth of God's Word and the power of the Holy Spirit we can stand firm in any attack, we can live without fear of our future, we can experience peace in troubling times. We simply must all decide how important the truth is to each of us. As Jesus said in John 8:31-32, "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

THIS WEEKS MEMORY VERSE

Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you. ~Deuteronomy 31:6
